Do one thing every day that scares you. – Eleanor Roosevelt
Most of us will go out of our way to avoid pain. And why not?
But if you choose pain to achieve success, you will grow through the experience.
In the end, challenges, obstacles, trials, and pain all allow us to grow. If you can begin to feel comfortable with being uncomfortable, then your world will change. We gain experience from everything we do. And frankly, not everything is going to go right the first time. It’s called life. The more life we can experience, the better off we’ll be when the going gets tough.
“Why did you carry me through troubled waters, Lord?”
“Because your enemies can’t swim.”
You have to have faith that you can overcome your obstacles. We call this belief and it fuels your passion, gives you courage, and helps you move past your challenges.
Choose Pain to Achieve Success
Pain Is Good
Overcoming a difficult challenge allows you to understand what the pain feels like. For a small moment, you will be uncomfortable. Sure, this might seem like a bad way to go, but think about how stress works: you need to feel the stressor so you can handle the discomfort next time. Once you understand the pain, then you will not be bothered by it next time.
Fear Builds Character
Without sounding like a recruitment film, it is a truth that overcoming a fear or challenge makes you a better person. When you can’t control something, there’s a tendency to pull back. But if you embrace the challenge, you will grow. If you fight your fears, you will never change. By taking on a fear, you become better able to shrug it off next time. Work on taking small risks everyday to build your character.
If you want to live a life free of fear, you have to be willing to be scared everyday. You must choose pain to achieve success. Life is scary; choose to embrace it.
